I can easily get behind AppleDash friendshipping, and especially when a good-natured rivalry/"brotherly" type of relationship is emphasized between the two, even though (for better or for worse) I admit that I have a very difficult time imagining much more ever working between them. In any case this is cute, and I love Rainbow's posture with her lazily-dangling hooves!
i think all ships can work if written right. i myself like appledash i just love the friendship they have. would a romance between them work in a long run? probably not Dash would need to lighten the hell up before starting a relationship with anyone. i am with WhiteDiamonds on this one i think rarijackh as a far more chance of working out then appledash *hides from angry appledasshers* sheesh you people are relentless of proving why appledash would work in a romance when its quite clear they work better together as friendshipping.
Actually, when it comes to AppleDash I think the biggest hurdle for me is Rainbow Dash's lack of maturity and general lackadaisical nature... considering how much emphasis Applejack places on being responsible and how incredibly important her work is to her I can't see her being willing to tolerate Rainbow's attitude and lifestyle for very long. But of course, this is only my own opinion with how I see the characters in the show... it's true that in fanon-only interpretations, most ships can be made to work decently enough.
The concept of shipping rivals is so appealing though, especially when RD is the one who is the "submissive" one. It's not quite as nice as opposites attracting however. Which is why it's always nice to see Applejack and Rarity.
And her posture is adorable isn't it. Very Lyra-esqu. Haha.
Well, but if I'm being completely honest, that actually is one of the problems for me. When it comes to Applejack and Rainbow Dash specifically, I find it very difficult to pair them romantically without compromising their characters in order to make them work... in almost every interpretation of the relationship I've seen one or both of them are almost invariably made "weaker" to fit together, and I personally don't enjoy fanart or fanfiction ideas that feel so out of character to me (unless it's something done purely for the sake of humor and not meant to be taken seriously, because most anything can work that way).
There are other reasons as well, but it's only my own opinion and an image like this probably isn't the best place for such a conversation anyway, I'm sure. But yes, suffice to say that the pose is indeed very cute!
Funny you should say that, Whitediamonds! Bookplayer was saying something very, very similar in regards to RariJack - that it feels so very out of character for such opposites to attract ( [link] has the conversation, and many of her blogs too).
Admittedly, any shipping somehow alters the character, but at least, for me, with AppleDash... I don't actually see that there's much change. They're best buddies, yeah, and understand each other very well. The push towards romance between the two is a very, very small one. Compared to other ships, where one or the other has to change in some significant way to "adapt" to their partner (twidash, or even rarijack). There's just so little change with AppleDash (unless you could the overused "omg help on the farm" trope) that it just... flows well together.
And I'm still waiting on some appledash from youuuu~
Hahaha, well unsurprisingly I'm sure, I see things very different; in my own opinion it's Rarijack that would require the relationship/personalities of the characters to change the least, while still allowing for a workable romantic relationship to grow. I can understand what you're trying to say about Rainbow and Applejack's relationship, but unlike with Rarijack I don't think the reasons that the two former ponies are close as friends are any kind of reasons that would be conducive to growing a romantic relationship, and namely because their friendship in the series (if you actually try to look at this objectively, and disregard fanon interpretations) is primarily based on a friendly competitive rivalry. Rainbow Dash and Applejack share an almost "brotherly" type of relationship in other words, as opposed to Rarity and Applejack who have a more well-rounded and balanced friendship, something which I feel is much easier to build a relationship off of.
Many people such as yourself and Bookplayer bring up the cliché concept of "opposites attract" when discussing/debating Rarijack, and while that sort of relationship does manage to appeal to me on at least some level, with me being the hopeless romantic-type of person that I am, that's not actually the reason that I like Rarijack or feel that it could work. Instead, it's due to the similarities that do exist between them (the similarity in their business-oriented lifestyles and work ethics, and the higher levels of maturity they share when compared to the other Mane Six ponies) and their friendship that I see things the way that I do. I personally feel that Applejack and Rarity have been shown to be as close as friends as Rainbow Dash and Applejack are at this point in the series, perhaps even closer, and there is a certain sort of "softness" in many of their interactions with one another that has, as time has gone on in the show, come to manifest itself through acts of them showing care for one another and/or good-naturedly indulging each other's quirks. Some examples of this being Rarity accompanying Applejack and keeping her clean during and after the disaster-proofing montage in "It's About Time", Applejack catching and caring for Rarity in "Magic Duel" when she was distraught over her ugly dress, and of course Applejack patiently indulging Rarity during her dramatic lamenting in "The Crystal Empire" before doing her best to cheer her up with a cute punny compliment, just to name a few. These scenes readily prove that their relationship has changed a great deal since they bickered over their petty differences in "Look Before You Sleep" before learning how to appreciate each other, and also, arguably, that it would not at all be difficult to transition their existing relationship into a romantic one were FiM the type of show that would ever allow such a thing.
Of course, everyone is entitled to have their own opinion and to interpret moments between the characters as they like, but on that note (as before) I'm sorry to disappoint you by saying that I can essentially guarantee you will never see any AppleDash shipping from me... I'm afraid that pairing in a romantic sort of context just doesn't do anything for me. Once again though, if it ever comes to pass that you find yourself writing Rarijack fanfiction please do let me know, as I know I will greatly enjoy reading it! ^_~
Haha, I don't believe I actually said that, as much as I likely remarked that the chances of my drawing AppleDash are about as high as they are of your writing Rarijack! In other words, essentially nil. It's simply a case of different strokes for different folks I believe, but just as I respect your preferences for your own favored pairing, I hope that you in turn can respect mine.
Haha, No that's very true. I have my own little head-canon for how their personalities work, which makes shipping them really cute to me. Thanks for sharing your opinion though, it's always awesome to hear from an artist such as yourself.
Thanks so much again for coming on our show by the way. I still smile when I see your journal post.
